You Don't Have to Wait for Someone Else to Celebrate You

You don't have to wait for someone else to celebrate you.

I think we need to normalize celebrating ourselves. Really celebrating ourselves.

Because sometimes you build the thing you've been dreaming about for years. You create the business. You build the app. You launch the platform, finish the product. You finally do the thing you kept telling yourself you were going to do.

And then it's quiet.

Not because what you created isn't important. Not because it isn't going to help people. But because nobody knows about it yet.

And that quiet can mess with you. Because when nobody else is talking about what you built, you can start feeling like maybe you shouldn't talk about it either. Maybe you're doing too much. Maybe you're bragging. Maybe you should wait until somebody else validates it before you celebrate it.

No.

That is exactly when you need to get the loudest.

You built this. You created something from an idea that existed inside of you. Nobody came to your house and built it for you. Nobody sat through all of the frustration, the doubt, the mistakes, the learning, the late nights, the moments where you almost quit.

You did.

So why would you wait for somebody else to give you permission to be proud of yourself?

We need to stop treating self-celebration like arrogance. Especially as women — there is such a difference between believing you are better than everybody else and simply being proud of what you accomplished.

You are allowed to say, I did that.

You are allowed to look at something you created and think, wow, I'm proud of myself.

You are allowed to buy yourself the flowers. Take yourself out. Create a beautiful night at home. Use the expensive body oil. Light the candle. Put on the music. Make an ordinary evening feel like a celebration — because you decided your own accomplishment was worthy of being acknowledged.

Because it is.

At the beginning, the outside world might not reflect the magnitude of what you know you just created. The numbers might still be small. The audience might still be growing. People may not understand the vision yet.

But you do.

And sometimes that has to be enough in the beginning. You can't outsource your belief in yourself. You can't outsource your pride. And you definitely cannot build your entire life waiting for someone else to clap first.

Celebrate the win before everybody understands why it matters. Celebrate yourself before the recognition comes. Celebrate the woman who actually followed through.

Because every time you acknowledge yourself, you reinforce something powerful.

I trust myself. I see myself. And I am proud of what I'm becoming.

There is absolutely nothing selfish about that.
